I am still playing in Prophesies after 14 months of the game, can't afford the 2 new chapters. I enjoy the challenge of completing each mission & bonus and all the quests with each character class. It is getting more difficult and time consuming putting together teams lately, but I think most people are getting use to seeing a hench or two in a group now.

In PvP, to me all you are trying to do is kill a character just for points to unlock skills to kill better with.

I don't see trying to complete quests, exploring 100% of the map, or hunting for greens and golds as 'grinding'. I see it as challenging.

honestly, i enjoy PvE more. i have spent the last few months PvPing and iv gone back to PvE. now i can do a GvG or HA every once in awhile, but figuring out ways to solo things, and "finishing" the game(never really ends) is funner to me.

I don't complain about PvE anymore, since I realized a loong time ago that ANet meant this to be a PvP game with a shallow world wrapped around it.

Even so, I despise PvP, even the missions that RESEMBLE PvP (Searing mission, Thirsty River, etc) because even in PvE, I despise having to rely on other human players.

Just ain't my style. I'm a control freak, and without TeamSpeak, and a team of people who actually know their roles (ie, no spellcasters/rangers bumrushing), I can't get shit done.

That's why I'm on the verge of getting Nightfall, just for the Heroes, so I don't have to worry about ANet nerfing the henchie AI (or about Alesia being in the middle of the fray).

I care nothing for "competitiveness".
I care more about soloing missions and exploring places said to be impossible to solo with henchmen.
Plus, I'm a hardcore RPG fan at heart, and do everything possible to immerse myself in this shallow world

Anywho, that's just my opinion.

It's all what you find enjoyable. If you like PvP, more power to you. I personally don't, spending 95% of my time in PvE.

The main reason for this: I have kids, I am a soccer ref, and I work long hours. I get told I'm an idiot quite enough, thank you, that I don't want to log in using my "free time" for someone else to have the chance to tell me what they think of me.

PvE is self paced, relaxed.....and best of all, I don't see the mobs taunting me! Sure, they may stand over my corpse once or twice, but I can deal with that.

I happen to find both enjoyable. I have done a lot of the PvE part of GW by myself when I don't want to bother anyone to come and help me. I also run TS to do missions with my guild mates when they need help. I enjoy it because when you're going through them for the first time, it's interesting... and after you've figured the missions out, it's fun to help people and strategically complete the missions. I follow the story line and watch the sequencing and it's a little more laid back. Now, after I've gone and completed anything, the only reason I'd go back is if my monk wants kurzick armor or my ranger wants 15k armor... Sorrow's furnace, anything.

I enjoy PvP because it allows me to explore the skills and learn why certain things work well together and why others don't. I've played with a lot of "guild wars wiki" builds and learned why they made good builds. I've added to them, and made my own things. It's fun. I think it allows you to experiment and learn more about the skills.

Aw..Why hate Bambi? :P Believe it or not- but some R3 players actually try to get that rank rather than just IWAYing to that. It's much more fun than using VIM/VIMWAY/IWAY.

Back on topic. I personally only PvE when I feel the urge to unlock more skills or get another end game item. Otherwise you can find me in AB trying to get my Ally Of The Kurzicks title or in RA/TA/HA GVG

Totally agree. For me this usually happen for gvg. I can get people for HA easily and I dont need vent to win hall (at least the old hall).

GvG isn't really an issue with me. We all turn up on time, know what were doing and were off into a game within 10 minutes. Anyway...I do tend to stay away from HA. I usually only go there if I can get a guild party or a friend needs one extra player. The reason for this is; everyone is so uptight about getting into parties. Before; it was 'R3+ only!' Now it's 'R6+' Only. My guess is it'll keep on rising.

For me, I like to PvE to relax and learn how to play my character without harsh criticism, as well as developing my character and experimenting. After you hit level 20, have done both attribute point quests, and passed all the missions, the development stops for me. Gold and vanity items/armor offer nothing of interest to me anymore, so I decide to go PvP after that. Furthering my learning experience from facing more formidable opponents, and learning more about skills/builds. Then I usually feel my character development is complete, and I either delete the character, or keep them if I enjoy their style of playing or for utility reasons. Titles don’t interest me or impress me either, so I don’t even bother usually unless I’m bored.

I stopped playing chess at the point where the other kids started reading chess books and playing in clubs. I couldn't see the fun of memorizing a number of standard openings, and that was needed in order to stay competitive.

For the same reason, I don't play in the team arenas. The random arena can still be fun, you can go in there with your normal character and contribute with what you have with out reading up on builds.

It is not really a PvP vs. PvE question, the elite PvE areas are just as bad, you need specific builds to be accepted (and useful), and it takes the fun out of it for me.

Luckily, there is more than enough fun for me in the rest of the game, and obviously the high level PvP and PvE with specialized builds is fun to other people, so it is good that there are places for them as well.

i have spent at least 90% of my game time during and since Wintersday with the non elite noobs having fun answering questions on my permanent presear characters. yes more than one.

the non elite bs is wonderful and they even thank you for answering a question.

may even stay with the friendly noobs indefinitely.

and i dont sell things there i give them.

If this thread continues to deviate to complaints about PvP elitists, it will be closed. Saying you don't like PvP is one thing, ranting and stereotyping everyone who plays PvP is another.

I really dont get all the PVE vs PVP hate that goes around in here. I usually only get sucked into them because I've seen too many "OMG PVP players whining ruined PVE!!" I myself am a hybrid player. I usually play both PVE and PVP in MMOs and like them both. But I've gotten tired of the repetitive play of PVE in GW so now I'm mostly PVP.

I can understand why people don't PVP. It takes too much organization at times. And yes sometimes there are crappy mean people. But there are just as many as these idiots in PVE PUGs. So the comment that PVP is full of elitists is stupid at best.

PVE CAN be more fun than PVP at times, since it's more casual. But it makes me wonder how some PVE'ers can tolerate the repetitiveness of the same map, same monsters spawning in the same exact spot with the same exact skills in a given specific instance. Blah.

doubt people don't play GW PvP just because of that. you get it in any competitive game. if stuff like trashtalkin from strangers affects you, yea you probably should stick to fighting AI.

i think that you'll find that alot of PvE players appreciate that sense of familiarity with the static world since it gives them a sense of control over their world.

I won't go into detail about how Pve is more accessible than Pvp and more casual, thats been said a lot already.

For me, Pve just got boring. Never during my time with this game have missions and quests really been fun for me. With the deletion of all my Pve characters due to the discovery of my password by someone, I can never get myself to achieve what I have again. (Not much, in any case.)

I came from FPS games though, so Pvp was naturally going to by my eventual destination. Ive been desensitized to dealing with people in competitive games, I guess.

Funny, because I got back into AB/Aspenwood again recently, and got Tiger /ranked by an SP sin in Grenz Frontier. ...

It seems like pve is a really big deal, but i can't figure out why. I come from games that the main point of grinding was to PvP (but soon found out the main point of grinding was to grind some more b/c theyre pvp systems suck). I made a NF PvE character before i made a pvp character, so I could get skills to pvp. Around level 16 it got to a point where it was much more effecient to get skills from pvp than grinding for it in pve (and you learn much more about the game from it too)

Im not flaming PvE, but i don't see what the big deal is. I mean after level 20 what is there to do? I guess you aim to finish the game, grind for skill points, and do dungeon raids or something like that (UW FoW). Also there is elite armor you can get, but its a bummer because no one can see them in the "instanced" world. The instanced part of the game is interesting because it makes things diablo-like, but its dumb that no one can see your tight armor, team up with you, or help you deal with an extremely hard part of the game.

The story is actually insanely good (nightfall) for a mmorpg, but most of the time it feels like im playing a one player (or 12 player co-op )console game, so in those terms it sucks because of the insane down time... collecting god-forsaken sunspear points (of course its much worse for a level 20 character who doesn't get ANYTHING from a quest other than sunspear points). The quests as a whole seem to drag the game down, since unlike most other games, they don't offer items or unlocks for completing quests... just experience and skill points ( i think it would have been more interesting if I got prophecies because they give skills, which you don't have to buy with all your money like nightfall)

I'm not bashing PvE or anything, I just feel like I'm missing out on something but i don't know what.

rpg players have been telling anet and pvpers this for a long time. Now all the pvers are bored with the game.
